Brewers 5, Tigers 1 – Yelich, Hoskins and Frelick homer as the Brewers defeat the Tigers 5-1
Christian Yelich, Rhys Hoskins and Sal Frelick all hit home runs and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-1. Milwaukee took two of three in the series. José Quintana (2-0), making his second start of the season after pitching seven shoutout innings in his Brewers debut on Friday, held the Tigers to one run and four hits over 5 2/3 innings. The 36-year-old left-hander surrendered a solo home run to Spencer Torkelson with one-out in the sixth. He struck out four and walked three.
Athletics 3, White Sox 1 – Urshela’s 2-run triple and Bleday’s 3 hits lead Athletics past White Sox 3-1
Gio Urshela snapped a sixth-inning tie with a two-run triple that sent the Athletics past the struggling Chicago White Sox 3-1. JJ Bleday had three hits, including a double and an RBI single, to help the Athletics win their second straight on a cold night. Osvaldo Bido tossed 5 2/3 innings for the win, allowing one run and five hits with one walk. Mason Miller struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save in five chances. Brooks Baldwin’s homer in the third put the White Sox ahead 1-0, but Chicago has lost three in a row and 11 of 13.
Padres 4, Cubs 2 – Tatis and Machado each drive in 2 runs as the Padres beat the Cubs 4-2
Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado each drove in two runs and Nick Pivetta pitched six strong innings for the San Diego Padres, who beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 to take two of three in the series. The Padres improved to a major league-best 15-4. The NL West leaders have won 12 of 13 home games, with the lone loss coming on Tuesday night in 10 innings against Chicago. Mavs 120, Kings 106 – Mavericks beat the Kings 120-106 to advance to face the Grizzlies

NFL – NFL teams are no longer shying away from older prospects in the draft
Bo Nix has already turned 25. Michael Penix Jr. will get there in May. Both quarterbacks were first-round picks last year. They were among 56 players age 24 or older drafted in 2024. That number was up from 54 in 2023, 44 in 2022, 16 in 2021 and 19 in 2020. There have been more older prospects drafted in recent years because the COVID-19 pandemic gave players an option to stay in school an extra year. Even though the window is ending, the transfer portal and NIL deals might continue to keep some players in school longer. Teams used to shy away from older prospects.
NCAAFB – Raiders star Maxx Crosby takes on side gig as assistant GM at alma mater EMU
Pro Bowl pass rusher Maxx Crosby has accepted a job as the assistant general manager for the Eastern Michigan football team. Crosby starred for the Eagles before he was drafted by the Raiders. It is a side gig for a four-time Pro Bowl selection. Crosby will help Eastern Michigan with evaluating high school and transfer portal prospects, help manage the team’s NIL and revenue-share budget, and help the athletic director with fundraising, alumni relations and student-athlete support. Crosby is just the latest active professional athlete to take an administrative role with a college. Hawks guard Trae Young is working in a similar capacity for Oklahoma basketball, as is Stephen Curry with Davidson and Terance Mann with Florida State.
NCAAMBB – Central Michigan hires Ferris State’s Bronkema as head coach
Central Michigan University has announced that they have hired Division 2 Ferris State University head coach Andy Bronkema as their new head coach. Bronkema, 41, has spent 11 seasons at Ferris State, going 252-93 with the Bulldogs. Ferris State won the 2017-18 Division 2 National Championship with a 38-1 record.
Golf – Justin Rose coping with the ‘torment’ of Masters close call
Justin Rose has been down this road before. He is trying to process another playoff loss at the Masters. Rose rallied from seven shots behind to catch mistake-filled Rory McIlroy. And then McIlroy beat him with a great shot in the playoff to win the green jacket and complete the career Grand Slam of majors. Rose says he received plenty of nice text messages. He was hoping to see one offering congratulations instead of commiserations. But he says he’s playing great golf. Rose says he’s motivated to keep working by the special moments that happen along the way.
Athletes Unlimited names former MLB executive Kim Ng its softball league’s commissioner
Former Major League Baseball executive Kim Ng has been named commissioner of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League. Ng is the former general manager of the Miami Marlins. She has three World Series rings from a combined 21 years in the front offices of the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
