The South Haven Education Association is supporting and advocating for federal education funding for public education with a public rally.

Association President Andrea Jegier tells us us that today and tomorrow, the association will hold an “Honk for Public Education” rally in support of the cause.

“We are hoping to continue raising that conversation among our community members,” Jeiger says. “We’ve informed our teachers about how the cuts would impact us. We receive in South Haven about $800,000 in federal funding, and that really would significantly impact the programming that we can provide.”

As public funding for schools across the country remains uncertain, Jegier emphasizes the importance of continuing the conversation about how funding will impact schools and students in South Haven.

“We want our students to have a rich educational experience, and we can see that if that funding goes away, then that’s going to be impacted,” Jeiger says.

The rally is set to take place on Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. on the north side of Phoenix Road, at the I-196 overpass.

The South Haven Education Association plans to persist in voicing its concerns for schools, staff, and students as the weather warms up.
